Thomas E. Rehm, PhD, president at GSOP Climate Collaboration Inc., has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Engineers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in nonprofit work.

With five decades of experience, Dr. Rehm has built a successful career in nonprofit work, specializing in global warming. He currently serves as president and co-founder of Global Solutions and Outreach Programs (GSOP) Climate Collaboration Inc., a nonprofit he co-founded in 2022 and has led since 2023. Climate Collaboration Inc. focuses on developing integrated global strategies to combat climate change. The organization employs the “Wicked Problem Approach,” which tackles the complexities of global warming through comprehensive international analyses. The GSOP aims to support climate efforts by creating national, regional, and global action plans to guide future initiatives. He has also served as chair of the South Texas Section of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) since 2019, a climate solutions liaison at the Engineering, Science, and Technology Council of Houston since 2020, and a fellow of AIChE since 2019.

Dr. Rehm’s experience also includes principal of TERehm Consulting LLC from 2013 to 2019, senior loss prevention engineer at Saudi Aramco in Saudi Arabia from 1997 to 2009, senior engineering roles at CH&A Corporation from 1993 to 1997, and at Amoco Chemical from 1985 to 1992. His academic background includes research at Northwestern University from 1978 to 1985 and senior project engineer at UOP from 1972 to 1981. In addition to his professional work, he is actively involved with the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, the Citizens Climate Lobby, and the Stable Climate Group, and has been inducted into the Arkansas Academy of Chemical Engineers, an organization that honors distinguished alumni from the University of Arkansas’s chemical engineering program for their professional achievements and contributions to the field. Laying a solid educational foundation for his successes, he earned a Bachelor of Science in chemical engineering from the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, in 1972, followed by a Master of Science in chemical engineering in 1982 and a PhD in chemical engineering in 1985, both from Northwestern University. He also holds certifications as a Professional Engineer and as a Certified Process Safety Professional.

Reflecting on his path, Dr. Rehm, who retired as a chemical engineer in 2009, transitioned into part-time consulting between 2011 and 2019. His involvement with global warming began in 2017, and in October 2018, his proposal to the AIChE to form the Climate Solutions Community was approved and launched in early 2019. This initiative significantly expanded his professional network within AIChE. Over two years, in collaboration with a retired chemical engineer, he developed the concept of GSOP, ultimately establishing the nonprofit in 2023. Earlier in his career, he worked as a design and research engineer and later spent 12 years with Saudi Aramco, focusing on safety, particularly in risk-based process safety, for the final 16 years of his career. He takes great pride in receiving a certificate from the Center for Chemical Process Safety as well as his work on global warming. He attributes his success to his pursuit of excellence in all endeavors, and in the coming years, his goal is to make the GSOP proposal well-known, especially among policymakers and those responsible for capital funding decisions.
