Rich Marshall, Principal Engineer at American Airlines, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Professional for dedication, achievements, and leadership in Aerospace and Aviation.
Mr. Marshall has enjoyed a long and successful career with American Airlines in Tulsa, Oklahoma, for over 35 years. As the principal engineer of tooling engineering since 2020, he has been responsible for specifying new equipment and tooling for various requirements, evaluating proposed design revisions and working closely with customers. Among other tasks, Mr. Marshall is in charge of assigning engineers to address new requests, overseeing the production of items outside the company and managing the procurement of supplies from various vendors.
Hired by the airline company in 1986, Mr. Marshall began as a tooling engineer for five years before advancing to line tooling engineer from 1991 to 1996 and lead engineer of line tooling and GSE, aircraft handling and recovery, between 1996 and 2000. Over the next two decades, he was promoted to various other positions, including senior engineer and senior manager, and ultimately became a principal engineer, where he remains today. Mr. Marshall’s expertise in aviation maintenance, commercial aircraft maintenance and aircraft interfaces has been instrumental in his ongoing success at American Airlines.
In preparation for his career in this sector, Mr. Marshall obtained a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering from Oklahoma State University in 1986. Inspired by his father, a successful engineer, he sought to follow in his footsteps. Mr. Marshall has since remained active with Tau Alpha Pi and has served with various civic organizations, such as his local school board for over 10 years and on the board of directors for the Rural Water District. Additionally, he has been involved with several nonprofit organizations, including United Way and Big Brothers Big Sisters of America.
Throughout his career with American Airlines, Mr. Marshall was recognized for many accomplishments, including leading a team that managed procurement and aircraft tooling across 150 locations for nearly 20 years. He also accepted various special assignments, including overseeing the transportation of an NV 80 aircraft to the Baker Aviation School in Miami. In preparation for this project, he had to design equipment to lift the plane over the highway. Mr. Marshall’s success in this venture garnered recognition in local media and was a testament to his expertise and problem-solving abilities. Additionally, he had the opportunity to serve as the lead engineer on American Airlines’ aircraft recovery team from 1996 until he decided to pass on the responsibility to a younger engineer in 2023, for whom he had to train and prepare for the position.
Mr. Marshall’s success was recognized with a President’s Award from American Airlines in 2017. He credits his good fortune to the valuable connections he has nurtured throughout his distinguished tenure. He also attributes his exceptional management skills to his ability to lead and inspire others. Furthermore, he firmly believes in fostering a positive work environment that prioritizes collaboration and demands a collective effort where everyone is involved.
As he prepares for the future, Mr. Marshall aims to retire comfortably within five years. He hopes to be recognized for his hard work and commitment to the organization and leave a legacy for future generations.
