Elfadil Abdelrahman Azrag, PhD, Chief Executive Officer at BluWater, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Engineers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in Environmental Engineering.

Dr. Azrag, an esteemed environmental engineer, is the chief executive officer of BlueWater. Based in California, his company has been instrumental in designing and studying the rehabilitation of water and wastewater treatment plants, water supply structures and networks, wastewater collection, and runoff drainage networks. By leveraging his extensive knowledge and expertise in environmental engineering, wastewater treatment, and water supply treatment, Dr. Azrag has been highly successful and widely recognized for his work collaborating with his team of associates on various projects.

Most notably, Dr. Azrag has been credited with the design of the extension of Sudan’s most extensive wastewater treatment system. He remains committed to future opportunities where he can continue implementing sustainable and cost-effective designs for water and wastewater treatment systems, focusing on serving underserved communities.

Besides his work in the field, Dr. Azrag had taught in the classroom as an associate professor at a local institution in Sudan. There, he influenced, mentored and guided the next generation of engineers and prepared them for the ever-evolving engineering landscape through captivating lectures and real-world experience.

Dr. Azrag initially came to the U.S. in 1970 as part of an exchange program at Harvard University. He then returned home to finish his undergraduate degree before settling in California. Garnering a rich educational background, Dr. Azrag attended the University of Khartoum in his home country of Sudan, where he received a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering in 1980. Continuing his studies in the U.S., he earned a Master of Science in civil engineering and a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of California in Davis. Adding to his professional credentials, Dr. Azrag is a registered professional engineer in Colorado, Iowa and Nevada.

Active in his professional community, Dr. Azrag is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and the International Mine Water Association. These affiliations allow him to network with like-minded individuals and remain at the forefront of his industry.

Dr. Azrag enjoys giving back his time to worthy causes in his free time. He frequently volunteers with several water and sanitation consultancy groups. He also supports the industry by providing free engineering advice and design expertise to support community projects.

As a seasoned engineer, Dr. Azrag notes the importance of creating durable and achievable solutions based on budget. He also stresses that striving for perfection will often lead to failure because many projects will not take off due to financial constraints. To all those engineers he has taught and mentored over the years, Dr. Azrag has always suggested they assess the budget first and then design their projects accordingly to improve their odds of success.

Eager for the future of environmental engineering, Dr. Azrag is confident in the many advances that have made his career enjoyable. He credits much of his earlier success to his mentors, including a professor from the University of California and several colleagues he had worked with. Looking toward the future, Dr. Azrag hopes to continue remaining diligent in his efforts at BluWater while passing on his expertise to others.
