Joseph Zeumah Nkemontoh, retired senior engineering associate for the City of Portland, Oregon, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Engineers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in engineering.

With three decades of experience, Mr. Nkemontoh established a distinguished career in engineering, specializing in corrosion engineering and education. He served as a senior engineering associate with the City of Portland, Oregon, from 2005 until his retirement in 2021. His earlier roles include district traffic engineer with the Portland Bureau of Transportation and Environmental Services from 1991 to 2005 and engineering assistant in the electrical design group at Caltrans from 1989 to 1990. Laying a strong educational foundation, he earned a Bachelor of Science in mathematics and English literature from the University of Sioux Falls, an engineer-in-training certification from California State University, Los Angeles, and a general certificate of education in liberal arts and sciences from the University of London.

Mr. Nkemontoh has also dedicated his time to professional and community involvement. He served as a member of the board of trustees for the National Association of Corrosion Engineers Western Area from 2019 to 2021 and as chairman of the board for the association’s Portland section from 2012 to 2014. Additionally, he is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, the Association for Materials Protection and Performance, ASM International (formerly the American Society of Materials), and is a past board member of Good Samaritan Ministries, where he served for three years.

Reflecting on his career, Mr. Nkemontoh takes pride in his role as a design and construction manager, leading the development of cathodic protection systems that safeguard infrastructure such as water pipes, tanks, reservoir pipes, and rail transit systems from corrosion. His exceptional contributions have been recognized with honors including the Purple Feather from the University of Sioux Falls in 1986 and inclusion on the National Dean’s List in 1985. He attributes his success to a strong work ethic, relentless determination, and a willingness to embrace challenges. Looking to the future, he plans to write and publish a diverse range of works. His immediate priority, however, is supporting his wife through her recovery from a kidney transplant. Once she has regained her strength, he hopes to return to his passions for writing and teaching if the opportunity arises.
