Dr. Derrick Tajaun Shaw, PhD, senior technical program manager at Belcan, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Engineers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in engineering.
Dr. Shaw, a distinguished professional in engineering management, currently serves as the senior technical program manager at Belcan, a leading international engineering and technical services company. In this role, he develops cost-reduction strategies for rocket systems and leads his team in executing these strategies. Dr. Shaw’s career has been marked by a series of progressive roles that have honed his expertise in manufacturing and engineering management.
Recruited from Blue Origin LLC, Dr. Shaw was the wire harness fabrication manufacturing engineering manager for the organization in Merritt Island, Florida, from 2022 to 2024, where he was instrumental in managing avionics, tests and wire harness MEs on the New Glenn rocket build. He also served as the engine section manufacturing manager for NASA Space Launch Systems at Boeing between 2021 and 2022. Dr. Shaw’s tenure with Boeing also included roles such as senior project manufacturing engineer II before working his way up to senior SLS electrical business process design engineer, engine section electrical manufacturing engineer lead, and finally senior SLS electrical manufacturing engineer lead.
Dr. Shaw’s career began in 1999 as a field engineer with the United States Army Corps of Engineers. He subsequently held positions with Fluor Corporation, Electrolux, KOYO Corporation, Blue Bird Corporation and Northrop Grumman. Additionally, between 2010 and 2012, Dr. Shaw gained experience as a business adjunct professor at Strayer University in West Palm Beach, Florida.
Dr. Shaw’s educational background is extensive and has significantly contributed to his professional success. He holds a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering technology from South Carolina State University since 2003, a Master of Business Administration from Webster University since 2005, and a Master of Philosophy in engineering management and a PhD in applied management and decision sciences (AMDS) with a focus on engineering management from Walden University in 2019. His dissertation, “A Quantitative Evaluation of the Productivity of the Mercedes-Benz Production System,” reflects his commitment to advancing knowledge within his field. Additionally, Dr. Shaw holds Six Sigma and project management certifications, further underscoring his commitment to excellence.
In addition to his professional achievements, Dr. Shaw is deeply involved in civic activities as the founder of Destiny International Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to community development.
The influence of Dr. Shaw’s family has been pivotal throughout his life. He attributes much of his success to the support and inspiration from his parents, his late wife, his daughters and several other family members. This strong familial foundation has instilled in him the confidence to pursue ambitious goals and think innovatively.
Eager about future opportunities, Dr. Shaw plans to write a book preserving his wife’s legacy while publishing literature on multifamily property investment research. He also intends to return to academia as a professor, where he can continue inspiring the next generation of professionals. Moreover, Mr. Shaw hopes to revitalize the Destiny International Foundation.
