Apart from his role at ABE Engineering, Mr. Hoge has served as the chief executive officer of Disaster Relief since 2024, where he applies his expertise to manage critical projects to provide aid and support during emergencies.
Before his present positions, Mr. Hoge dedicated nearly a decade to the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority, where he was a manager and interim director of facilities management between 2015 and 2024. As such, he was instrumental in ensuring the safety and efficiency of one of North America’s busiest runways. Among his responsibilities, Mr. Hoge directed daily facility operations and managed ground transportation issues as they arose. His leadership was also pivotal in upgrading runway lighting from incandescent to LED, resulting in significant cost savings and enhanced operational standards.
Before his impactful work at the airport, Mr. Hoge made significant contributions at the University of California (UC), San Diego. As a senior project manager in 2015, he was crucial in developing Jacobs Medical Center, the first hospital to feature the Da Vinci surgical system. This innovative project connected San Diego with other medical institutions nationwide, enabling remote surgeries through advanced robotics.
Mr. Hoge’s journey at UC San Diego began as a project specialist from 2010 to 2013, involved in facilities design and construction and serving as the state agency liaison with the Office of Statewide Health and Planning Department, among other responsibilities. He then became a contract specialist for the university between 2013 and 2015, managing contract documents for major and minor capital improvement projects. Mr. Hoge’s dedication and skill in these roles laid the foundation for his subsequent achievements.
A graduate of the University of Idaho in Moscow with a Bachelor of Science in anthropology and sociology in 2004, Mr. Hoge attributes much of his success to the mentorship he received as a teaching assistant. This guidance led him into facilities design and construction at UC San Diego, marking the start of his successful career trajectory.
Active in his professional community, Mr. Hoge is a member of the Project Management Institute and the International Facility Management Association. In addition to his professional accomplishments, he is actively involved in civic organizations, such as the San Diego River Park Foundation, his local YMCA and Habitat for Humanity International. He also enjoys coaching his children’s sports teams. Mr. Hoge’s commitment to community service has been recognized with a Community Service Award.
Mr. Hoge attributes his success to being humble and willing to learn. He believes that communication and collaboration are essential. He also emphasizes the importance of encouraging others to collaborate and move away from the outdated mindset of rigidly adhering to one way of doing things to garner results. Looking toward the future, Mr. Hoge will potentially rejoin a public institution, with aspirations to explore new experiences, such as maritime projects alongside his extensive land and air expertise.
