Mr. Whitfield, a senior technology designer at M-Engineering, a full-service engineering firm based in Westerville, Ohio, has held his leading position since 2010. For more than 15 years, he has been instrumental in coordinating technology designs with other building disciplines, working closely with owners and architects to ensure that spaces such as data rooms and auditoriums are optimized for advanced technological needs. Mr. Whitfield’s expertise extends to large venue projects, where he addresses specialized requirements for acoustics and lighting.
Recognized as one of the pioneers in technology design, Mr. Whitfield entered the field when such positions were rare in Ohio and across the United States. He played a significant role in developing processes for providing advanced technology designs to architects and engineers at a time when few professionals possessed the necessary knowledge to manage low-voltage and data systems.
Mr. Whitfield’s career began in the late 1980s when he was acquired as a systems designer for Walsh Sound Equipment. He excelled in his role from 1987 to 1994 before subsequently earning future opportunities with Acree-Daily Corporation, Industrial Communications, and SOUND.com as a sales consultant between 1994 and 1998. These roles enabled him to establish a solid foundation in client relations and technical sales within the communications sector.
From 1998 to 2005, Mr. Whitfield contributed as a technology and systems consultant at MKC Associates Inc., focusing on innovative approaches to sound reinforcement and presentation systems. In 2005, he operated as a technology consultant with Otter Creek Consulting, collaborating exclusively with architects and engineers to deliver tailored solutions. Between 2005 and 2010, Mr. Whitfield worked as a senior design consultant at T6 Inc.
Mr. Whitfield’s educational background included coursework in architecture at Kent State University concluded in 1975, followed by an associate’s degree in sales and marketing from North Central State College in 1977 and additional coursework in business at The Ohio State University in 1984. Additionally, he holds certifications, including Firestop 101 from STI Firestop and DigitalMedia Certified Designer from Crestron Technical Institute.
Active in his professional community, Mr. Whitfield has maintained a long-standing membership with the Audio Engineering Society since 1995. Civically, he is dedicated to community service as a volunteer with Recreation Unlimited. This organization provides youth with physical and mental challenges opportunities to participate in outdoor activities, such as fishing and hunting. Mr. Whitfield is also a member of Freemasonry.
With over three decades of professional experience, Mr. Whitfield has become an expert in technology design, data network infrastructure, digital signage, sound reinforcement systems, presentation systems and conferencing systems. In light of his success, he has received several team recognition awards for his design work. He attributes his success to his ability to listen attentively and discern clients’ real needs, even when they are not explicitly stated. This skill has enabled Mr. Whitfield to provide practical solutions throughout his career.
Mr. Whitfield’s passion for music and curiosity about electronics led him into the field of technology design. Growing up in a musical family and playing in bands during high school sparked his interest in repairing musical equipment, which evolved into a lifelong career. Today, Mr. Whitfield remains committed to mentoring future professionals in the field of technology design. He is passionate about educating others on the intricacies of technology systems and strives to inspire young people to pursue careers in this dynamic field.
