Matthew Lee, PE, Structural Engineer at Trailblaze Solutions Ltd. and Structural Department Manager at Civil & Environmental Consultants Inc., has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Engineers for dedication, achievements and leadership in Structural Engineering.

Mr. Lee is dedicated to structural engineering, with a career spanning nearly two decades marked by progressive responsibility and technical achievement. Since 2023, he has served as the owner at Trailblaze Solutions Ltd., a firm offering a variety of engineering services, including residential engineering, signage, sign engineering and structural engineering. At the helm of his company, Mr. Lee is responsible for overseeing daily operations, responding to team members and clients, ensuring his staff have the resources necessary to excel, and supervising the creation of calculation packages and structural analysis models. His leadership is characterized by a commitment to fostering collaboration and technical excellence.

In addition to his entrepreneurial role, Mr. Lee has been affiliated with Civil & Environmental Consultants Inc. since 2020, beginning as a senior structural engineer and, since 2021, as a structural department manager. Previously, Mr. Lee worked for CH2M (now Jacobs). Hired as a structural project lead in 2017, he remained in his position until 2020.

Earlier in his career, Mr. Lee worked for companies like Pennoni as a project engineer and The Harman Group, now IMEG, as a design engineer. While at The Harman Group, he contributed significantly to a high-seismic project in Venezuela, an endeavor that required his team’s engineering drawings to be translated into Spanish for local implementation. This international experience broadened Mr. Lee’s perspective on global engineering standards and cross-cultural collaboration.

Mr. Lee also excelled as an engineer at SSI Creative Group after spending his foundational years as an engineer-in-training at The Kachele Group Inc., now AFS Engineering LLC, beginning in 2008. Notably, this period coincided with the economic recession and presented unique challenges due to limited job opportunities and reduced work hours. Despite these obstacles, Mr. Lee persevered, viewing adversity as an opportunity for growth.

A graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, Mr. Lee earned a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering in 2007. He has since earned professional engineer certification in more than 35 states, underscoring both his technical competence and his commitment to upholding rigorous industry standards. Among Mr. Lee’s most notable achievements was earning his license in California after nearly a year of thorough preparation.

While working toward his degree, Mr. Lee had the opportunity to serve as a field engineer intern at The Whiting-Turner Contracting Company, now Whiting-Turner, in 2005 and as an engineering intern at Thornton Tomasetti in 2006, where he contributed to post-Hurricane Katrina building assessments during a college co-op.

Mr. Lee’s expertise is further reflected in his active membership with several industry organizations, including the American Institute of Steel Construction, the American Society of Civil Engineers, the National Council of Structural Engineers Associations, and the Associated Builders and Contractors. Civically, he leads the “Find Your Passion” men’s group at his church. This commitment has spanned over five years and has provided support for men navigating family life, marriage and professional challenges.

Throughout his career, Mr. Lee has become an expert at leading multidisciplinary teams on large-scale engineering projects, demonstrating proficiency in vertical buildings, heavy industrial structures, commercial buildings, residential developments, shoring and underpinning, as well as signage. His ability to manage complex technical requirements has earned him recognition within the industry.

Mr. Lee credits much of his success to his unwavering loyalty and strong advocacy for himself and others. He attributes significant professional growth to his wife’s support and the mentorship from an individual whose recognition during a critical project reignited his passion for leadership after a period of disillusionment.

Looking ahead, Mr. Lee remains focused on making a meaningful impact within every environment he enters, applying his California engineering license to new projects while building relationships with clients, vendors and contractors. His ongoing goal is to contribute positively wherever possible while maintaining the values of patience, effort, resilience and purposeful improvement that have defined both his career and personal life.
