Rami Al Idrissi, Senior SCADA and Controls Engineer at Leeward Renewable Energy, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Engineers for dedication, achievements and leadership in Renewable Energy and Cybersecurity.
Mr. Al Idrissi has established himself as a leading expert in supervisory control and data acquisition, control systems for energy management in renewable energy, operational networking and cybersecurity for critical infrastructure. His career is marked by a series of progressive roles and significant achievements across North America.
Currently, Mr. Al Idrissi serves as a senior supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) and controls engineer at Leeward Renewable Energy, a position he began in 2025. In this capacity, he ensures that control systems for energy management in renewable assets, such as wind, solar and battery storage, operate to the highest standards. He serves as a subject-matter expert in both control systems and SCADA, guiding operational technology, industrial networking and cybersecurity. Mr. Al Idrissi’s responsibilities include analyzing data trends, identifying operational anomalies, developing solutions to complex issues and ensuring that new projects are implemented in accordance with company standards. He also advises on securing these systems from a cybersecurity perspective, working closely with operations teams to address performance-related challenges.
In addition to his role at Leeward Renewable Energy, Mr. Al Idrissi is the owner and founding member of RF Defense Solutions, a startup he launched in 2025. Through this venture, he conducts research on radio frequency technology for cybersecurity devices. Mr. Al Idrissi is currently developing a patent for an innovative device designed to address vulnerabilities in radio frequency systems. This project has required extensive research, modeling and simulation to ensure practical application.
From 2021 to 2025, Mr. Al Idrissi was a SCADA manager at Avangrid Renewables. During his tenure, he played a pivotal role in developing the first commercial offshore wind farm in the United States. His expertise was instrumental in helping the project achieve its first power milestone, earning recognition from the deputy chief executive officer of Vineyard Wind as one of three key contributors to this success.
Mr. Al Idrissi served as the lead SCADA and controls engineer at GE Renewable Energy between 2015 and 2021. He also held positions with GE Vernova Hitachi Nuclear Energy in Canada as an instrumentation and controls engineering team lead and with The St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corporation as a control systems engineer. Earlier in his career, Mr. Al Idrissi worked as a reliability maintenance engineer at Resolute Forest Products in Thunder Bay, Ontario, after beginning his professional journey in 2003 as an electrical engineer at Cascades, also in Thunder Bay.
Integral to his success, Mr. Al Idrissi has held a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Lakehead University in Thunder Bay since 1999. He later earned a Master of Science in cybersecurity with a specialization in cyber-physical systems from the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta in 2023, graduating with a perfect grade point average of 4.0. This advanced education provided Mr. Al Idrissi with deep insight into the engineering aspects of operational networks and the cybersecurity challenges facing critical infrastructure.
Mr. Al Idrissi has pursued several credentials that have enhanced his technical capabilities. These include a professional engineer designation from Professional Engineers Ontario obtained in 2008, wind energy coursework via Coursera Course Certificates in 2016, project management professional certification through Simplilearn in 2018 and Simulink model management and architecture credentials from MathWorks in 2020.
Beyond his education, Mr. Al Idrissi’s commitment to professional excellence is reflected in his active memberships with the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society and Professional Engineers Ontario. Beyond his professional commitments, he is civically engaged through volunteer work with General Electric Company initiatives, food distribution programs and efforts to repair offices or facilities serving less fortunate communities.
Throughout his career, Mr. Al Idrissi has credited much of his success to the unwavering support of his wife. Balancing demanding academic pursuits with full-time employment often required extended periods away from home while she managed their household and raised their three daughters. Looking ahead, Mr. Al Idrissi aims to continue researching and developing radio frequency protection systems for critical infrastructure cybersecurity, addressing overlooked vulnerabilities, particularly in legacy devices lacking modern encryption or security features.
