Most recently, in 2025, he served as a technical consultant with Apex Technical Resources, LLC, in Columbus, Ohio. In this capacity, Mr. Hahn provided expert guidance on aseptic processing and thermal processing in aseptic filling, drawing upon his extensive background to support clients in achieving rigorous industry standards.
Before his role at Apex Technical Resources, LLC, Mr. Hahn held the position of technical consultant at Abbott Laboratories in Columbus for over 15 years, between 2008 and 2025. During his tenure, he attained the highest technical position available to individual contributors within the organization, a distinction awarded through a selective vote by the executive committee. In this prestigious role, Mr. Hahn led a community of practice comprising more than 120 professionals. He mentored and taught colleagues monthly, sharing technical knowledge, setting strategic goals and developing comprehensive plans that advanced both individual careers and organizational objectives.
From 1994 to 2008, Mr. Hahn excelled as a process technology manager at Abbott Laboratories. In this capacity, he played a pivotal role in shaping process technologies that supported the company’s mission to advance health and wellness globally. Mr. Hahn’s leadership extended beyond technical innovation, instrumental in fostering a culture of continuous improvement and knowledge sharing within the organization.
Among Mr. Hahn’s most notable achievements at Abbott Laboratories was the development of the world’s first aseptically filled infant formula. This groundbreaking product is packaged in a sterile environment, ensuring it remains safe and shelf-stable for one year while preserving essential vitamins, minerals and nutrients without separation. Mr. Hahn’s expertise also contributed to the advancement of sanitary cleaning and sanitation practices across the packaging industry.
Mr. Hahn began his professional journey as a consultant for Anheuser-Busch Companies, LLC. Although he gained valuable experience in this role, he ultimately determined that his ethical commitment to helping others would be better fulfilled in an industry dedicated to health and well-being. This decision led Mr. Hahn to join Abbott Laboratories, where he would make significant contributions over the next three decades.
In preparation for his future in the sciences, Mr. Hahn obtained a Bachelor of Science in chemical engineering from Clarkson University in Potsdam, New York, graduating in 1984. His education provided the technical acumen necessary for his early consulting work and laid the groundwork for his later innovations in aseptic processing and sanitary design.
An active member of several prominent industry organizations, Mr. Hahn participates as a member of The Association for Packaging and Processing Technologies, 3-A Sanitary Standards, Inc., and the American Institute of Chemical Engineers. His involvement with these organizations has included key contributions, such as collaborating with the 3A working group to ensure equipment meets rigorous sanitary standards and developing documentation on industry best practices.
Beyond his professional achievements, Mr. Hahn has demonstrated a strong commitment to civic engagement and community service. He has volunteered with Habitat for Humanity International and served as a senior member of the pastoral council at a local Korean American church in Columbus.
Throughout his career, Mr. Hahn has been recognized as an expert in aseptic engineering, aseptic processing, sanitary best practices and thermal processing in aseptic filling. His accomplishments have been recognized with several honors, such as the Lifetime Achievement Award from Abbott Laboratories. This accolade serves as a testament to Mr. Hahn’s enduring impact on both his colleagues and the broader industry.
As part of his ongoing commitment to knowledge sharing, Mr. Hahn notably dedicated one year prior to retirement, preparing senior leadership at Abbott Nutrition for his departure by developing playbooks, process descriptions, and technical manuals designed to retain critical institutional knowledge. Looking ahead, he intends to give back to the community by translating these insights into a new series of books focused on technical manuals for aseptic processing, cleaning procedures and Current Good Manufacturing Practices. Mr. Hahn’s legacy is defined by technical excellence, mentorship and an unwavering dedication to advancing health-focused innovation within his field.
