George J. Reed, Retired Nuclear Manager, Engineer and Nuclear Operations Overseer at Hope Creek Nuclear Power Station, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Engineers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in Nuclear Energy and Emergency Planning.

Mr. Reed’s illustrious career spanned over four decades, marked by significant contributions to the nuclear energy industry. His most recent role as a nuclear manager at the Hope Creek Nuclear Power Station in Salem County, New Jersey, began in 2017. In this capacity, he oversaw the quality assurance programs for all three nuclear units until retirement, ensuring adherence to stringent safety and operational standards.

Before this position, Mr. Reed served as the corporate emergency planning, safety and health manager at the Columbia Nuclear Station under the Washington Public Power Supply System (now Energy Northwest). The position came after initially serving as an emergency planning, safety and health manager for the agency. Mr. Reed’s expertise in emergency preparedness was instrumental in enhancing the station’s safety protocols in building and operating electrical generating facilities throughout the northwest area of the U.S.

Before his tenure at the Columbia Nuclear Station, Mr. Reed owned a consulting company for 10 years, where he provided expert guidance on nuclear operations and safety measures. His foundational experience in the field was shaped by his service in the U.S. Navy from 1972 to 1978 as an E6 first-class machinist mate. During this time, Mr. Reed became submarine qualified in 1975 and received several Letters of Commendation from the commander of the Atlantic Fleet.

Beyond his formal education, Mr. Reed is active as a member of several esteemed organizations within the industry, such as the American Nuclear Society, the American Society for Quality and the Health Physics Society. Notably, his involvement in national standards committees for nuclear power led to significant contributions to the Nuclear Quality Assurance Program through the NQA1 document and ANSI N45.2 standard. Beyond his professional endeavors, Mr. Reed volunteers with the Environmental Protection Agency. He is also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the United States Submarine Veterans Inc.

In retirement, Mr. Reed remains active by researching genealogy and writing nonfiction books. He authored “Happiness is a Cool Reactor” and “The Real Night Order Book,” both published through The Library of Congress. Currently, Mr. Reed is working on “John Grey, the Last Surviving Soldier of George Washington’s Revolutionary Army,” which delves into historical lineage tied to his wife’s ancestry and is scheduled for publication in July 2026.

Throughout his career, Mr. Reed has been recognized with numerous accolades, including Letters of Appreciation from local emergency operations centers across the country and recognitions from the Institute of Nuclear Power Operations for his development of emergency preparedness and quality assurance policies. Eager for future success, he intends to continue focusing on literary works and other ongoing projects while positively contributing to society.
