Robert James Jones, Retired Engineering Consultant and Co-founder at Jones, Jones & Jones Inc., has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Engineers for dedication, achievements and leadership in Engineering.

Mr. Jones began his career at Rotating Components in Bayshore and Brentwood, New York, creating blueprints for parts such as motors, fans, blowers, and other similar devices. His illustrious career in the engineering industry spanned decades, marked by significant contributions and leadership roles. His journey began after earning his undergraduate degree, where he spent 20 years in the field before pivoting into entrepreneurship. Now retired, Mr. Jones garnered success as an engineering consultant and co-founder of Jones, Jones & Jones Inc., a family venture he started with his two brothers. Although the company operated for only about a year, it was a testament to his ability in the field.

Mr. Jones worked for E.I. du Pont de Nemours and Company from 1972 to 1979 at Louviers in the Engineering Service Division, Newark, Delaware; Fabrics & Finishes Plant in Parlin, New Jersey; and Savannah River Site in Aiken, South Carolina. While at Louviers, he played a pivotal role in a $40 million Nomex expansion project in Richmond, Virginia that doubled production capacity. His exemplary performance led to his appointment to the Fabrics & Finishes Plant in Parlin, New Jersey, where he contributed significantly to the development of exothermic reactors’ emissions control systems. He was subsequently appointed to the Savannah River Site as an “engineer A” and “shift supervisor” within a nuclear weapons-oriented Projects Department and Separation Department. His tenure with the American chemical company was instrumental in his later success.

In 1979, Mr. Jones joined Philip Morris USA, where he served until 1992. For over 10 years, he excelled as a senior engineer and engineering project manager across three locations, consistently meeting deadlines and ensuring successful project completions without overruns. Notably, he started his work as a lead engineer on a project in Newark, Delaware, before transferring to a fabric and finishing plant in New Jersey for a crucial field engineering assignment. Mr. Jones’s final project at Philip Morris USA involved establishing an engineering standards program that streamlined existing standards into five organized categories.

Mr. Jones served in the U.S. Air Force, assigned to a police squadron at L.G. Hanscom Field in Bedford, Massachusetts, marking the start of his four-year career in the military. He served in security and law enforcement at Bedford, Massachusetts for over a year before being transferred to Hahn Air Force Base in Germany for more than two years. Mr. Jones embarked on a personal research journey into drafting, discovering that the U.S. Air Force offered a drafting specialist course, which he enrolled in and completed. This newfound focus encouraged him to pursue employment in drafting, with aspirations to advance into related fields in design, construction, or engineering.

Although he was accepted to study art at Clark College in Atlanta earlier, Mr. Jones ultimately withdrew and chose to pursue engineering at Tuskegee Institute, now known as Tuskegee University, in 1972. During this time, he was greatly encouraged by the Dean of Engineering, who supported his ambitions and strengthened his determination to succeed. He likewise refined his ability in engineering graphics at Tuskegee Institute and received the Engineering Graphics Prize. He obtained a series of technical-training certifications from Radio Shack.

Throughout his career, Mr. Jones has been associated with esteemed organizations, such as The American Society of Mechanical Engineering, The Richmond Engineering Club, The American Management Association, and The American Consultants League. Beyond his professional affiliations, he is actively involved with various political organizations.

In recognition of his educational success, Mr. Jones received the Best All-Around Student Award during his elementary education and was a high school honor graduate. He earned more than 15 Customer Service Awards while employed in the retail sector with JCPenney for more than a decade. He was likewise selected for inclusion in Who’s Who publications in 1981-1982 and 1982-1983.

Mr. Jones is currently illustrating a book, based on personal narratives written by his grand-niece in elementary school class. He is regarded as an exemplar within his family, inspiring four engineers across two families to pursue successful careers in the engineering sector. He is incredibly grateful for the guidance of his high school teacher, Mrs. Moses, who shepherded his interest in the U.S. Air Force during his formative years. Looking ahead, Mr. Jones plans to remain in consulting work while collaborating closely with his brother on land patents, a field that holds significant potential for individual landowners.
