Daniel J. Vasicek, Data Scientist, Applied Mathematician, Engineer, Linguist, and Programmer at Access Innovations Inc., has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Engineers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in Engineering and Sciences.

Dr. Vasicek has established a career marked by innovation, leadership and a commitment to advancing knowledge across multiple disciplines. Since 2012, he has served as a data scientist, applied mathematician, engineer, linguist and programmer at Access Innovations Inc., where he also played a pivotal role in founding the Albuquerque, New Mexico-based company. For more than a decade, Dr. Vasicek has contributed significantly to the organization’s growth and reputation for excellence in information management and applied technology. He first joined Access Innovations Inc. in 2012 as a programmer, where he dedicated five years to mathematical, computer science and artificial intelligence (AI) concepts, while using algorithms to solve problems.

In addition to his primary responsibilities at Access Innovations Inc., Dr. Vasicek has been a consultant for Harbert Engineering, a firm headquartered in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Since 1986, he has been providing expert guidance on complex engineering projects and contributing his expertise in algorithm development, gamma ray spectroscopy and other areas of his field.

In 2010, Dr. Vasicek worked as a contract senior software engineer at MCNA Dental, involved in software design, data analysis, data mining and language theory. From 2003 to 2009, he held concurrent roles as a senior engineer at Starfire Optical Range at Kirtland Air Force Base and with Scientific Applications International Corporation.

Dr. Vasicek’s academic involvement included serving as an adjunct professor at Tulsa Community College from 1999 to 2003, where he shared his knowledge with students in engineering and computer science. He also held positions as a senior engineer at PCM Technical from 2000 to 2001 and at Thales Training & Simulation Inc. in 2000.

Early on in his career, Dr. Vasicek was a physics teacher for Tulsa Public Schools in 1999, where he taught five Honors Physics classes at Booker T. Washington High School. He spent the most significant portion of his tenure with Amoco Production Company (later acquired by British Petroleum), where he was employed from 1973 to 1999. During this period, Dr. Vasicek led a critical project focused on interviewing retiring employees and documenting their expertise. This initiative resulted in the conversion of valuable institutional knowledge into computer programs accessible to new hires, ensuring continuity and organizational learning.

Dr. Vasicek’s educational background is extensive and has been foundational to his achievements. He received a Bachelor of Science in engineering sciences and a Master of Science in aerospace engineering from Purdue University. He also acquired a Doctor of Philosophy in aerospace engineering sciences from the University of Colorado, Boulder. Additionally, Dr. Vasicek completed coursework in aeronautics and astronautics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and coursework in computer science at Tulsa Community College.

In addition to his formal education, Dr. Vasicek’s professional credentials include certification as a professional engineer. He also completed specialized training through Udacity Inc., including courses in AI, programming a robotic car, and writing and designing active web pages. Additionally, Dr. Vasicek completed an AI course through Stanford University.

Dr. Vasicek is a life member of the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics. He also participates actively in a local hiking club, reflecting his commitment to personal well-being. Among his civic involvements, Dr. Vasicek has volunteered with the Voting Integrity Group at AS Earth. He also organized the BP Amoco Corporate Challenge Team for more than a decade, beginning in 1986.

Throughout his career, Dr. Vasicek has become recognized for his ability to synthesize complex concepts into practical solutions that benefit both industry and academia. His expertise in petroleum reserve estimation is particularly noteworthy. He observed that reservoir reserve analysts often relied on inconsistent methods for predicting oil in place. In response, Dr. Vasicek collaborated with nearly all major oil companies on the GO CAD project (Geologically Oriented Computer-Aided Design) initiated by the University of Nancy in France. His method for estimating petroleum reserves involved minimizing second differences weighted by the reciprocal of the square of the distance, which significantly increased known reserves and prevented depletion within the industry.

Dr. Vasicek’s passion for science began at age nine when he resolved to become a space scientist. Encouraged by his mother’s support for independent learning, he spent countless hours at the library immersing himself in scientific literature, a formative experience that shaped his lifelong commitment to discovery. Dr. Vasicek attributes much of his success to his ability to view situations from multiple perspectives. Looking ahead, he remains driven by curiosity, continually seeking new perspectives and striving to understand both people and the world around him through thoughtful observation and inquiry.
