John R. Keller, PhD, a senior engineer specialist at Jacobs Technology, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Engineers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in mechanical engineering.
Leveraging more than four decades of experience in his chosen field, Dr. Keller has earned distinction through his role at Jacobs Technology, an engineering consultation service that provides its services to the manufacturing, energy, health, national security and space exploration industries. Having served as a senior engineering specialist since 2005, Dr. Keller is responsible for supporting both the commercial cargo and commercial crew programs, as well as leading thermal engineering for the first phase of commercial cargo spacecraft missions. He bears a particular expertise in maintaining a comfortable operating environment for astronauts during manned spaceflights, and is well-versed in the study of heat transfer, thermodynamics and spacecraft testing.
Prior to his current endeavors, Dr. Keller found success as an engineering specialist at Lockheed Martin from 1989 until 2005. Throughout this time, he played an instrumental role in developing tools for extravehicular activity (EVA) during the construction of the International Space Station.
Dr. Keller initially became involved in his field due to the influence of his father, who served as an engineer in his own right. Having always harbored an interest in the inner workings of things, he went on to study heat transfer and thermodynamics. After earning a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Michigan Technology University in 1983 and 1985, respectively, Dr. Keller subsequently attended the University of Texas at Austin, where he received a Doctor of Philosophy in 1989.
Well-regarded for his accomplishments, Dr. Keller has attained numerous accolades throughout the span of his career path, including a Rotary Stellar Award from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration in 2020, an Emmy Award from the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences in 2019, various fellowships, and memberships with the fraternities of Phi Kappa Phi and Tau Beta Pi. Among his most cherished accomplishments, he is particularly proud to have developed a wireless video system for space suits and onboard the space shuttle. In accounting for his success, he largely credits the mentorship of his dissertation advisor, Theodore Bergman. Looking toward the future, Dr. Keller aspires to continue supporting efforts in the field of manned space exploration.
