Prior to his post at Genentech, Mr. Choy was active as a product validation manager and laboratory systems validation engineer for Benchling from 2020 to 2021 and a quality systems specialist with Verily Life Sciences from 2021 to 2022. He previously served as a quality assurance research and development associate with Impax Laboratories from 2011 to 2012 and the lead engineer for development sciences for clinical operations and clinical supply chain for BioMarin from 2012 to 2020. Mr. Choy began his career as a quality assurance administrator with MedImmune in 2010.
To support his professional ambitions, Mr. Choy pursued an education at the University of California, Santa Cruz, from which he earned a Bachelor of Arts in environmental science with an emphasis in biology and chemistry in 2010. Following this academic, he obtained two levels of certification from Benchling. Mr. Choy was notably inspired by his older brother, who worked successfully as a laboratory technician.
Mr. Choy has attributed his success to his stellar work ethic and his networking skills. He has been greatly inspired by the need to gain a comprehensive understanding of upstream processes and research and development, especially in biologics and engineering within a laboratory and manufacturing settings. He was likewise driven by his refusal to be left behind in the evolving landscape of his industry, especially as the reliance on digital devices and software integration with molecules has increased over the years. As a result of this approach, Mr. Choy adopted a holistic perspective and enabled him to immerse himself into the latest advancements in his field with the goal of improving the lives of others.
Though he initially worked in a laboratory setting during the H1N1 pandemic, Mr. Choy realized the challenges associated with that environment caused him to shift his attention toward quality assurance. His confidence was further instilled by his exceptional performance during an inspection from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration during his time with MedImmune. Mr. Choy eventually refined his skills at BioMarin as an associate engineer, junior engineer, senior engineer and technical lead, roles in which he advanced at a spectacular pace and showcased his dedication, expertise, and future potential.
In the coming years, Mr. Choy hopes to advance to a senior administrative position that would allow him to mentor the next generation of professionals in his field. He additionally aims to continue gaining knowledge that would allow him to assist medical companies and physicians in understanding and treating their patients. Furthermore, Mr. Choy is a devoted father and plans on actively participating in their growth and development in a more substantial way in the future.
