Title: Software Engineer
Company: 1) The National Aeronautics and Space Administration; 2) Jacobs
Location: Los Altos, California, United States

Brian Theory, Software Engineer at The National Aeronautics and Space Administration and Jacobs, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Engineers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in software engineering.

With many years of experience in software engineering, computational neuroscience, and mathematical modeling to his credit, Mr. Theory has been driven by his penchant for innovation and his relentless pursuit of knowledge. Initially completing undergraduate coursework in computer science, he continued refining his expertise through research at The National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s (NASA) Jet Propulsion Laboratory between 2003 to 2009, The California Institute of Technology in 2004, and the Technical University of Berlin via a DAAD fellowship from the German Academic Exchange Service in 2006. During this time, Mr. Theory was not only introduced to the Erasmus program but also inspired to apply to the Erasmus Mundus ALGANT program, transitioning his focus to pure mathematics.

From 2006 to 2011, Mr. Theory simultaneously worked as a freelance web designer and tutor, honing his skills in software development while also assisting students in their educational journeys. He further enhanced his expertise as a research scientist at High Medical Technologies (HMT) from 2008 to 2010, where he applied his mathematical knowledge to medical technology. Between 2008 and 2017, Mr. Theory further served as a teacher’s assistant and tutor at Los Angeles City College.

In 2015, Mr. Theory concluded his academic efforts with a master’s degree in pure mathematics from the University of Padua, for which he notably penned a thesis explored Ignacio Matte-Blanco’s concept of the unconscious using P-Adic Ultrametric fields, along with the development of Correspondence Matrices (CMs). His studies during this time ultimately sparked his ambition to mathematically model self-awareness and the mind.

Mr. Theory found further success as a computational neuroscientist research associate at Palo Alto University from 2018 to 2022. Over the course of this tenure, he developed machine learning techniques for predictive analysis in psychometrics, focusing on self-report questionnaires. His research contributions culminated in published papers, including work on deep learning, SVMs, and regression techniques.

In 2022, Mr. Theory joined NASA’s Ames Research Center as a software engineer. In this capacity, he has played a critical role in the ArcJet Data Acquisition and Systems Upgrade (AJDASU) project. As the lead software engineer, he has developed advanced thermodynamic models and differential equations, implementing discrete approximations using Python and LabVIEW. His innovative work has led to a transition from traditional modeling methods to sophisticated conical frustum-shaped null-point calorimeters, significantly enhancing thermal diffusion modeling accuracy.

Beyond his technical achievements, Mr. Theory has collaborated with external software teams to ensure that solutions meet NASA’s operational standards. He has automated several processes, authored code for data exchange, and improved the efficiency of various subsystems. In addition to his primary professional endeavors, Mr. Theory is actively involved in civic engagement through the Los Angeles International Church (Dream Center), reflecting his commitment to giving back to the community.

Throughout his career, Mr. Theory attributes his success to his strong belief and unwavering tenacity, with the firm belief that determination is more crucial than intelligence. His commitment to advancing our understanding of self-awareness continues to drive his innovative projects exploring the intricate relationship between mathematics and the mind. Looking toward the future, Mr. Theory aims to promote mathematical art in the startup world and aspires to establish a successful science lab focused on theoretical mathematics and computation within the coming years.
