He also held several leading roles, including as a senior software engineer at Industrial Light and Magic from 1999 to 2013 and as a senior games technologist at Apple Inc. between 2013 and 2017. Most recently, Mr. Porcino succeeded as a senior research engineer at Facebook Reality Labs from 2017 to 2019.
In preparation for his career in this sector, Mr. Porcino received a Bachelor of Science in computer science and engineering from the University of Victoria in Canada in 1992. Throughout his career, he has secured numerous U.S. patents, including one used for movies and television shows. Mr. Porcino’s extensive creative projects have included authoring best practices, a course in film and game convergence, and game programming content, and, since 2003, continues to serve as the developer of OpenSteer. Additionally, he has presented several times in his area of expertise. Mr. Porcino’s most notable accomplishment, however, was his contributions to Apple, where he was instrumental in making the company the foremost place for creative people to do their artwork, resulting in a negotiation of partnership with several noteworthy studios.
