With over three decades of experience to his credit, Mr. Sokkarie has established a successful career in engineering management, specializing in software engineering, development, and architecture. He currently serves as technical director at SS&C Health, a role he has held since 2023. In this capacity, he schedules and manages teams, removes roadblocks for developer teams, and conducts one-on-one meetings with his direct reports. He is also responsible for guiding software development and overseeing software engineers to ensure the production of high-quality code that meets business requirements while adhering to architectural guidelines. His experience includes serving as senior enterprise architect at Estes Express Lines from 2022 to 2023, enterprise architect at SAIC from 2020 to 2022, and enterprise architect at Verizon Business from 2019 to 2020.

Prior to this, Mr. Sokkarie was senior technology architect at Hilton Grand Vacations from 2018 to 2019, senior IT enterprise architect at Express Scripts Holding Company from 2013 to 2018, lead product engineer from 2011 to 2013, software development manager from 2008 to 2011, and team lead from 2007 to 2008. Earlier in his career, he served as IT department professor at Al-Manar University of Tripoli from 2003 to 2004, software application developer at MagTek from 1996 to 2001, and senior software engineer at Electronic Imagery Inc. from 1991 to 1996. Laying a solid educational foundation, he earned a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering from Damascus University in 1986 and a master of science in electrical engineering from the University of Michigan, Dearborn in 1991. He holds a Microsoft Certified: Azure Fundamentals credential and is a Certified SAFe 5 Agilist, both earned in 2021. He is also a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, actively engages with the SAFe Framework, and serves as a mentor in the SAT Education Program.

Reflecting on his path, Mr. Sokkarie has contributed significantly to his field as a pioneer in artificial intelligence and machine learning. His groundbreaking research at the University of Michigan on object classification and characterization using Markov Random Fields achieved a success rate of 95-98% and became the foundation for several innovative applications. Early in his career, he built an image processing application that NASA used to enhance space shuttle images captured during missions aboard Space Shuttle Discovery between 1993 and 1995. He also developed a program to detect cysts and malignant cells in brain scans, utilized by Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, Florida. His work extended to agricultural applications, including software used by Lincoln Nursery in Grand Rapids, Michigan, to count plants via infrared film scans from low-altitude flights and a program in Sarasota County, Florida, to assess orange grove taxes based on tree yield and leaf color. Additionally, he co-authored “Object Counting and Sizing,” presented at the IEEE Southeastcon ’94 conference, and received an award from IEEE in 1994 for his contributions to artificial intelligence and machine learning.

Mr. Sokkarie also applied his expertise in pattern recognition to fingerprint analysis, creating an application used by the FBI to identify suspects from fingerprint databases. He takes great pride in leading successful teams, including at SS&C Health, where they consistently produced high-quality software. He attributes his success to his upbringing, crediting his parents for emphasizing the importance of education. Looking ahead, he aims to achieve his professional goal of becoming a chief technology officer before retiring to focus on enjoying life. On a personal level, he is committed to ensuring that his children are well-prepared and successful in their own endeavors.
