His prior experience includes serving as senior automation engineer at Javan Engineering in Fort Washington, Pennsylvania, from 2019 to 2022, electrical controls engineer at SP Scientific from 2012 to 2019, electrical engineer at PER-FIL Industries Inc. from 2007 to 2012, and systems engineer at U.S. Pipe and Foundry from 2001 to 2008. Laying a strong educational foundation, Mr. Powell completed coursework at Drexel University and earned certification as a Microsoft certified systems engineer. Reflecting on his path, his passion for engineering began in childhood. Fascinated by how things worked, he often experimented with electrical sockets and was encouraged by his parents, who gifted him a 75-in-1 electronics kit. He began his studies at Drexel University, but his academic journey was disrupted by the passing of his mother during his second year. While coping with this loss, he took a part-time job at USA Knitting, which eventually became full-time. Balancing work and education, he could only afford to take one course per quarter, funding his studies entirely on his own. Despite these challenges, his persistence and dedication laid the groundwork for his future success.
Mr. Powell takes great pride in successfully initiating the startup of a reactor system for a chemical company in Western Pennsylvania. With limited initial information from the client, he managed to build the project from the ground up, demonstrating exceptional problem-solving and technical skills. Additionally, he played a crucial role in designing controls for a system for a local oil company. Through collaboration with the original equipment manufacturer, he developed a solution that met the needs of both the manufacturer and the client. He attributes his success to his willingness to tackle unfamiliar challenges head-on. He also credits his fearlessness, combined with his ability to pay attention, listen, and observe.
Throughout his career, Mr. Powell’s real-world experiences that taught him how to learn and adapt effectively, and his hands-on approach and practical problem-solving skills have been key to his professional growth. Looking to the future, he aims to further refine his leadership abilities and make a meaningful impact on his colleagues and peers. He is also exploring the possibility of becoming a section leader at CHA Consulting, depending on the company’s expansion in the automation sector. His deep expertise in automation positions him well for such a role, which would allow him to lead and mentor others while contributing to the company’s growth in his area of specialization.
