With over a decade and a half of experience to her credit, Ms. Reynolds has established a successful career in metallurgical engineering, specializing in the defense sector. She currently excels as a metallurgical engineer at Spirit AeroSystems Inc., a position she has held since 2023. In this capacity, she conducts drawing reviews, correlating the requirements for the processes and materials that will be used in the product. She collaborates with suppliers and processes information related to operations, interacting with the supply and quality teams, particularly regarding special process approvals, and managing the approval process for special procedures. Her experience also includes director of quality, engineering and estimating at Dynamic NC from 2021 to 2023 and metallurgical engineer at Spirit AeroSystems Inc. from 2010 to 2021. Additionally, she has contributed as a supporter of children’s clubs and the Girl Scouts of the United States of America, as well as volunteering at her local church. Laying a solid educational foundation, she earned a bachelor’s degree in metallurgical engineering from South Dakota Mines in 2009 and a master’s degree in operations management from Friends University in 2012.
Reflecting on her path, Ms. Reynolds has always had a fascination with the aerospace industry. In high school, she wrote a report on space and airplanes, during which she explored what NASA sought in their startup programs. Metallurgical engineering was one of the fields mentioned, and when it was time to choose a career path, she researched various engineering schools and ultimately decided on South Dakota Mines. Her interest in airplanes, influenced by her grandfather, deepened when Spirit AeroSystems attended a career fair at her school. She appreciated the idea of investigating and analyzing materials, even breaking and examining them, which led to a summer internship with the company, where she was eventually offered a job. Additionally, she takes great pride in a project she has dedicated her time and effort to that involved setting up the necessary designs to address all the various aspects involved in launching a new program. Now, that program is in production and has successfully completed its first flight, a huge accomplishment and a highlight of her career.
In light of her impressive undertakings, Ms. Reynolds was honored with the Rising Star Award. She credits her success to the invaluable support of her mentors, including the deans and professors from her university, who inspired her to persevere through challenges. Looking to the future, she is aware that Spirit AeroSystems will soon be acquired by Boeing, and she plans to closely observe how the company evolves over the coming year and the direction it will take. She believes that transition presents new opportunities for learning and exploration, and her goal is to advance her career while becoming a technical expert as she navigates the company’s evolving landscape. Ultimately, she is dedicated to her continuous growth and development in the field. In advising aspiring professionals, she emphasizes that there are no foolish questions and underscores that you should ask for clarification whenever needed. She also notes that one should pursue lifelong growth and education in any field they choose.
