Mohamad “Dr. Z.” Zineddin, PhD, distinguished research and development staff of nuclear and radiological risk management sciences at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Engineers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in research and development (R&D).
With three and a half decades of experience, Dr. Zineddin has established a successful career in R&D and engineering. He currently excels as distinguished R&D staff of nuclear and radiological risk management sciences at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, a position he has held since 2023. His experience also includes founding manager of the security education and training department at Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation from 2014 to 2023, co-founder of the Institute for International and Civil Security, and professor of practice at Khalifa University from 2011 to 2014, and founding chair of the Department of Civil Infrastructure and Environmental Engineering at Khalifa University from 2011 to 2014. He was also associate professor of structural engineering at the United States Air Force Academy from 2006 to 2010, acting dean and co-founder of the School of Engineering at the American University from 2004 to 2006, founding chair and associate professor of civil engineering at the American University from 2003 to 2006, and research associate professor at Penn State University from 2000 to 2003.
Dr. Zineddin has also contributed to the field as an author, with works including “Nuclear Security for Scientists, Technicians and Engineers,” “Blast Protection of Buildings Standards,” and “Safety and Security Planning Manuals.” Laying an educational foundation, he earned a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering from The Pennsylvania State University in 1994, a Master of Science in civil engineering from The Pennsylvania State University in 1996, and a PhD in civil engineering from The Pennsylvania State University in 2002. He also holds several certifications, including Certified Nuclear Security Professional and The Coaching Manager certification. Additionally, he dedicated his as a member of the INMM Chapter Relations Committee for the MENA and Asia Regions in 2024, a member of the ORNL NSSD Academy Committee in 2023, and a member of the SEI/ASCE Blast Protection of Buildings Standards Committee since 2001. Looking to the future, he envisions a substantial expansion of his specialization, aiming to establish it as a key component within the research initiatives at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. His short-term goal is to engage more in research and development within the area of energy security, and long-term, he wants to establish a research hub focused on integrating physical security by design for a nuclear facility or high-consequence facility.
