Dr. Pathak has been a seasoned metallurgical engineer and manager at Copeland, a global leader in sustainable climate solutions based in Saint Louis, since 2023. His expertise in metallurgical engineering, alloy development and manufacturing, corrosion control and protection, and metal welding have been pivotal in his success and longevity in his field.
Among various responsibilities, Dr. Pathak assists local manufacturing facilities across the U.S., Europe, India, and China with matters related to metals and metallic components used in compressor manufacturing. He also addresses various customer quality issues, troubleshoots failures in the production process, and works intently on developing innovative compressor parts, especially those made of metal. Additionally, Dr. Pathak manages the metallurgical engineering research and development laboratories and Copeland’s team of engineers, which are located in both the U.S. and Asia.
Before being acquired by Copeland, Dr. Pathak excelled with several other notable companies, including Johnson & Johnson as a manager of surgical staple making and staff engineer of metal technology from 2022 to 2023, Cleveland-Cliffs as a project manager between 2015 and 2022, and Steel Dynamics Inc. as a product development metallurgist from 2013 to 2015. Earlier in his career, Dr. Pathak worked as a team leader and postdoctoral scientist in corrosion at the University of Southern Mississippi between 2008 and 2013.
Possessing a rich educational background, Dr. Pathak received a Master of Technology in corrosion science and technology from the National Institute of Technology in Durgapur, India, in 2005 and a Doctor of Philosophy in metallurgical and corrosion engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology in Bombay, India, in 2008. He also completed a postdoctoral fellowship in the school of polymer science and engineering at the University of Southern Mississippi.
In addition to his extensive education, Dr. Pathak has received several industry-related designations, including a certified quality engineer and a Six Sigma black belt through the American Society for Quality. He also garnered credentials as a project management professional through the Project Management Institute. To further advance his career, Dr. Pathak is pursuing a Master of Business Administration from the Questrom School of Business at Boston University.
Active in his professional community, Dr. Pathak contributes to the American Society for Quality, the Association for Iron and Steel Technology, and the Project Management Institute. He also supports local causes that serve children and the United Way. Dr. Pathak’s dedication to giving back to children stems from his son, who was born prematurely, and the support he received from Ronald McDonald House Charities to support various health challenges he faced. Being able to give back to other families is a testament to his gratitude for those who supported his family during their time of need.
As a seasoned researcher, Dr. Pathak has contributed articles to scholarly journals. He has also secured numerous U.S. patents since 2022, including for a bioabsorbable staple, a system for surgical staple cartridges, and an adaptive control of surgical stapling.
