Faouzi S. Chaahoub, PhD, Semiconductor Executive at Broadcom, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Engineers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in Engineering.
Dr. Chaahoub is distinguished for his career as a senior director of IC engineering at Broadcom Limited since 2015. As such, he manages the research and development team focused on chip development and developing high-speed products for artificial intelligence applications in data centers. In addition to his contributions to Broadcom, Dr. Chaahoub has found success as an angel investor for Band of Angels, which operates in the Middle East, Africa and the U.S., since 2023. His expertise in semiconductors has been pivotal to his career success.
Having begun his career at Motorola as a design engineer, Dr. Chaahoub worked in the Toulouse division, focusing on semiconductors and developing the first GSM phone and wireless applications. After garnering extensive notoriety for his work, he pivoted when he was recruited by Rockwell Semiconductor Design in 1995. His tenure was marked by years of developing the first models of cell phones, digital cameras, data centers and internet applications until Rockwell was spun off to Conexant Systems. There, Dr. Chaahoub advanced to the role of director of engineering, overseeing product development and developing teams throughout the U.S., India and China.
After over a decade with Conexant, Dr. Chaahoub joined Quellan Inc., a start-up specializing in cell phone applications. Ultimately, the company was acquired by Intersil, where he served as the vice president of engineering. From 2010 to 2015, Dr. Chaahoub also succeeded as the senior director of IC engineering at Avago Technologies, a high-tech company in California. His success with the organization included creating a group focused on optical networking products and sourcing chips for data center systems. His tenure resulted in remarkable growth, including expanding the team to approximately 65 employees and hiring engineers from Singapore, Malaysia, China, and India to work with his team in the U.S. to continue fostering development. In 2015, Avago was acquired by Broadcom, where he continues to serve as a senior director.
Highly educated, Dr. Chaahoub received a Doctor of Philosophy in electrical and electronics engineering from the Grenoble Institute of Technology in France in 1993. In 1996, he was recognized as the Top PhD Student in Electrical and Electronics Engineering.
As part of his continued commitments to his industry, Dr. Chaahoub is active in the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and the Photonics Circuit Group. These organizations allow him to network with like-minded individuals while remaining at the forefront of engineering.
Civically, Dr. Chaahoub has been involved with various causes. Most notably, he has volunteered by teaching technology in Africa. He intends to continue giving back by investing in universities through staff development and research and development related to technology and future innovations. These efforts will occur in the U.S., Europe and other countries interested in advancing their technological capabilities. Additionally, Dr. Chaahoub aspires to host free seminars and teaching sessions.
Between 2017 and 2019, Dr. Chaahoub secured over 45 patents in his name. These accomplishments are a testament to his commitment and perseverance to continually advance in his field. However, his most notable achievement has been his ability to build high-performing development teams numerous times at companies like Broadcom and Avago Technologies. His 30-year tenure in the industry has also enabled him to acquire a significant technical and management background and successfully manage product portfolios through mergers and acquisitions.
