Mr. Chan subsequently joined Sharp Electronics in 1987, spending the next 10 years as a contractor. During that same time, he also gained success as the president of NuRAM Technology Inc.
Over the next 25 years, Mr. Chan held several other leading roles. He served as the president and chief executive officer of Genesis Semiconductor Inc. in San Jose, California, between 1999 and 2001. He was also highly successful as the senior vice president of business at IPCore Technologies Company Ltd. in Shanghai from 2002 to 2008 and was a consultant at CSMC in Shanghai between 2008 and 2010. Mr. Chan’s 35-year tenure has been marked by tremendous growth and he has become widely recognized among his peers for his perseverance and dedication to continuous improvement.
Mr. Chan graduated from City College of San Francisco with an associate degree in engineering in 1968. He ultimately achieved a Master of Science in electrical engineering with a focus on computer science from the University of California in Berkeley in 1971. Mr. Chan also holds professional certification from the DeVry Educational Development Corporation. These academic achievements laid the foundation for his successful career in engineering and technology.
Besides his primary career endeavors, Mr. Chan is a prominent member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. His dedication to remaining at the forefront of his industry has been pivotal to his career progression.
Among his many career accomplishments, Mr. Chan received several patents dating back to the late 1980s as an inventor or co-inventor, including for a high-performance address buffer for random-access memory (RAM), for a low-cost telephone caller identification device and method and multilevel memory cell sense amplifier systems and sensing methods. He also became known for teaching the Koreans how to develop a type of memory called e-RAM. Moreover, Mr. Chan made a significant discovery about how cosmic rays could affect the functionality of this technology, which had a considerable impact on the industry.
Showcasing his pioneering work, Mr. Chan was given the unique title of “Special Scientist” at his company, highlighting his technical skills.
