John Ashley Woodlief, PE, principal at Site Advice Inc., has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Engineers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in engineering.
With over a decade of experience, Mr. Woodlief has established a successful career in engineering, specializing in civil engineering and development for residential, commercial, and retail projects. Since 2012, he has excelled as the principal of Site Advice Inc., where he oversees a wide range of development projects. His prior experience includes serving as a project engineer with RMF Engineering in 2011 and 2012 and as a design engineer III with ColeJenest & Stone from 2004 to 2011. Additionally, he is an active member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and dedicates his time as a volunteer with Habitat for Humanity and Meals on Wheels. He laid a strong educational foundation with a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering from North Carolina State University in 2001 and a Master of Science in civil engineering and transportation from the same institution in 2003. He is also a licensed professional engineer, a milestone that marked a pivotal moment in his career.
Reflecting on his path, Mr. Woodlief’s inspiration for starting his own company stemmed from his experiences at a previous firm. Observing opportunities for improvement but lacking the authority to implement changes motivated him to establish Site Advice Inc. Among his many accomplishments, the first subdivision he designed independently holds special significance. Walking through the completed project and seeing it become a home for many was a deeply fulfilling experience and remains a cornerstone of his career.
Mr. Woodlief attributes his success to his wife’s unwavering patience and support, noting that their partnership has been instrumental in his achievements. Looking to the future, he plans to expand his company to a team of at least 30 employees, focusing on land development. In the next year, his goal is to hire one additional team member, followed by five more hires within three years to form a three-person team capable of managing multiple projects. In the long term, he envisions having five to 10 development projects in progress simultaneously, aligning with his 10-year plan to transition toward retirement at age 55.
