David Walter Alvin, Consultant at Intelligent Medical Objects, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Engineers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in Technology and Software.
Mr. Alvin, a veteran in the technology and software sectors, spent the latter portion of his career with Intelligent Medical Objects (IMO), a clinical data intelligence business based in Rosemont, Illinois, from 2008 to 2024. Now consulting for the organization, he continues to give back as a leading authority in his field.
Leveraging over 35 years of experience, Mr. Alvin joined IMO as the director of portal sales and business development. In 2011, he was named as the vice president of software engineering. From there, he became the vice president of innovation platforms between 2016 and 2019, the vice president of product management from 2019 to 2021, and the vice president of product strategy and the vice president of strategy between 2021 and 2023.
During his tenure at IMO, Mr. Alvin managed 30 employees in the departments he oversaw and maintained excellent relationships with all of them. He also served as part of a mentorship program, where he had the opportunity to give back his expertise to help others advance in their careers. Additionally, Mr. Alvin garnered recognition for creating an online PowerPoint presentation software system in 2007 for IMO’s medical dictionary, an intermediate dictionary of doctor-friendly terms mapped into billing terms. While serving as the vice president of software engineering, he also designed a computer system alongside his team in 2011 for Meditech, which increased the company’s revenue to $35 million annually.
Before his work at IMO, Mr. Alvin held various other leading roles, including as the director of professional services at Macrovision from 2004 to 2007, where he successfully built and managed an enterprise services practice generating $4 million in revenue and oversaw a $1.8 million public training business. He also worked for InstallShield Corporation as the vice president of professional services between 2002 and 2004. This role encompassed managing all of the company’s consulting and webinar services. He also notably created a successful methodology and workflow management system that was productized. Shortly thereafter, Microsoft contacted Mr. Alvin to use it for their company. He traveled nationwide doing in-person seminars for software engineers to roll out the software application to the company.
Earlier, Mr. Alvin held several progressive roles at iXL Inc. from 1994 to 2001, beginning as the vice president of engineering before serving as the senior vice president of operations and client partner. Among his foundational roles, Mr. Alvin was the president of Monitoring Systems Inc., an electronic instrumentation firm that he founded and ran between 1989 and 1994. He also worked as a software engineer at Union Carbide Corporation during the 1980s.
Highly educated, Mr. Alvin received a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in computer science from Southern Illinois University in 1977 and 1979, respectively. He also garnered professional credentials, including being a certified Scrum product owner through Scrum Alliance and an Agile software development methodology certificate.
Besides his educational accomplishments, Mr. Alvin secured several U.S. patents in his field between 1993 and 2015. As he prepares for the future, he aims to become more involved in artificial intelligence (AI). He is working on a certificate in AI to become a consultant or business transformation leader. This certification will help companies in their AI endeavors and improve their product launches.
