Over the years, he continually progressed, earning opportunities with Sun Microsystems (now Oracle) as a senior staff engineer, the Transaction Processing Performance Council as a primary representative for Sun, MIPS Technology as a staff engineer specializing in performance, and Rearden Commerce (now Deem Inc.) as a principal performance engineer.
Before being recruited by Apple Inc., Mr. Lane was affiliated with Yahoo! in Sunnyvale, California, as a senior performance engineer from 2009 to 2011. This position encompassed serving as the primary representative to the SPEC Research Group. His work involved automated data collection, analysis, visualization and alerts within an agile development environment for both new and existing products. Among other tasks, Mr. Lane engaged in strategic performance initiatives and change management.
Highly educated, Mr. Lane received an undergraduate degree and a master’s degree in classics from Biola University in La Mirada, California, in 1976 and 1979, respectively. He also received programming certification through AT&T, making him highly qualified.
