Establishing his credentials over the last 15 years, Mr. Gomez Cobo has served as the head of internal audit for North America at OHLA USA since 2022. Part of the international OHLA Group, OHLA USA employs more than 1,600 construction and engineering professionals who work on infrastructure projects around the United States, including bridges, highways, mass transit, tunnels and more. As the head of internal audit for North America, Mr. Gomez Cobo conducts detailed analysis of the organization’s compliance, finances, operations and technical issues. He plays a crucial role in ensuring that OHLA USA implements the best industry practices, improving efficiency and success across the whole company.
Before connecting with OHLA USA, Mr. Gomez Cobo worked for five years across numerous roles at Ferrovial Construction, where he focused on the North Tarrant infrastructure project. He first joined this company in 2017 as a project manager and was later promoted to deputy project controls manager, contract manager and project controls manager. In these positions, Mr. Gomez Cobo contributed to a major highway renovation project worth nearly $2 billion. Influencing over 13 miles of express highway, the North Tarrant Express project transformed the transportation options in the North Texas region, including the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
In his early professional life, Mr. Gomez Cobo held the position of proposal manager and project manager at Isolux Corsan, a construction company in his home country of Spain. His first job was as a staff member at Swiftcurrent Motor Inn, located in Glacier National Park.
Mr. Gomez Cobo’s performance in the field was born of his academic journey. He earned a Master of Science in civil engineering from the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid in 2012. Since then, Mr. Gomez Cobo has committed himself to continuous self-improvement through professional training. He has been certified in Occupational Safety and Health Administration construction safety and health through Texas A&M University; in contract management from Headspring Executive Development; and in generative artificial intelligence (AI), the data landscape for AI and project management from the Project Management Institute.
Across the entirety of his career, Mr. Gomez Cobo has been celebrated for numerous noteworthy accomplishments. Among them, he considers his greatest moment to be designing the cost control structure for a major design-build project prior to joining OHLA USA. Mr. Gomez Cobo’s efforts in this capacity were essential for tracking costs and maintaining the budget for this very complex scenario. Playing such a key part in that project’s success continues to stand out as a highlight in his history.
As a commitment to his field, Mr. Gomez Cobo has been active with several industry-related organizations. He has maintained membership in the Real Madrid Club de Fútbol since 2001, in the Project Management Institute since 2017 and in The Institute of Internal Auditors since 2022.
Beyond his primary vocation, Mr. Gomez is a devoted husband and a loving father to one daughter. He fills his hours outside of work with a number of hobbies, including reading thrillers, history books, biographies and graphic novels, taking in art, listening to American and British music, watching movies and TV, going on road trips, running marathons, and watching soccer, football and basketball.
Looking toward his next goals, Mr. Gomez Cobo is excited to continue contributing to major infrastructure projects across the U.S. He plans to support investments into North America’s infrastructure from both local and international companies, which will in turn support the economy and development of the nation. Mr. Gomez Cobo prizes active participation in each project, regardless of his role. He intends to keep putting all of his effort into each new venture.
