June Lloyd Emerson Gopela, product introduction director at Alstom, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Engineers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in transportation and project management.

From his early childhood, Mr. Gopela was drawn to science. He recalls watching the television show “Popular Mechanics for Kids” and being fascinated by any topics related to engineering. Though he came from a less privileged background in the Philippines, Mr. Gopela was encouraged by his mother to excel in his studies and embrace any opportunities as they came to him. He worked hard as the corps commander of the regimental division of the citizen army training in high school and even took on a job at McDonald’s to help fund his college pursuits.

Mr. Gopela’s hard work began to pay off when he became an infrared technician with Zilog Electronics in 2007. From there, he gained experience as a junior engineer in service delivery management at E-Meralco Ventures Inc. In 2009, Mr. Gopela began a five-year tenure with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, first joining the company as a communication supervisor. He was later promoted to senior engineer of operation control systems, senior engineer of the systems performance management team and systems performance manager.

Culminating nearly 20 years of expertise, Mr. Gopela took on the role of field site engineer at Alstom in 2014. Since then, he has also contributed to the company as a performance and process improvement lead, as a product introduction portfolio manager and as product introduction director, the position he has served in since 2022. Mr. Gopela’s responsibilities include managing the product introduction team, making strategic business decisions on research and development, overseeing multiple national and international projects and ensuring the consistency of the company’s execution of product introduction. As an organization, Alstom develops sustainable transportation solutions such as high-speed trains, monorails, trams and more. The company is active in more than 60 countries and employs over 86,000 people.

Prior to embarking upon his professional journey, Mr. Gopela pursued an academic foundation for his skills. He earned a Bachelor of Science in electronics and communications engineering from Saint Louis University in 2007. Since then, Mr. Gopela has been certified as a licensed electronics engineer through the Professional Regulation Commission of the Philippines in 2007 and 2017, in safe management through the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health in 2016, as a chartered professional engineer by the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Chartered Professional Engineer Coordinating Committee in 2018, as an ASEAN engineer by the ASEAN Federation of Engineering Organisations in 2018, as an Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) engineer by the Philippine Technological Council in 2019, in project management by the Project Management Institute in 2021 and as a professional engineer by the Nevada State Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors in 2024. Committed to lifelong learning, he is currently pursuing both a Master of Business Administration and a Master of Science in electronics engineering, specializing in artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning.

Among his many accomplishments, Mr. Gopela has played a key role in several major transportation projects. Most notably, he aided in the creation and deployment of the Dubai Metro in the United Arab Emirates in 2009, an effort that was granted a Guinness World Record as the world’s longest automated railway system.

In addition to his primary vocation, Mr. Gopela is a dedicated husband and a loving father to two children. His hobbies include walking on trails, biking, hiking and spending time with his family, especially in nature. Eager to continue advancing in the field, Mr. Gopela plans to position himself at the forefront of technological advances such as AI, machine learning and smart wearables. While embracing these innovations, he also aims to uphold his reputation for completing projects safely and to a high degree of quality.
