In this capacity since 2025, he balances high-level responsibilities with detailed engineering and design work, coordinating closely with landscape architects, architects, and mechanical, electrical and plumbing engineers to ensure seamless project progression. Before being named to his present position, Mr. Johnson served as a senior project engineer at Bowman Consulting Group from 2023 to 2025. During this period, he contributed to a diverse portfolio of projects characterized by challenging design constraints.

Recruited from Tri-Tek Engineering, a small Virginia-based firm, Mr. Johnson worked as a design engineer from 2021 to 2022 and then as a project engineer until 2023. His time with the organization enabled him to gain valuable experience working on high-end residential developments, commercial properties and subdivisions. Mr. Johnson’s exposure to a variety of project types honed his technical skills and deepened his understanding of the intricacies involved in land development.

Between 2019 and 2021, Mr. Johnson worked as a staff consultant at Civil and Environmental Consultants Inc., a civil engineering consulting firm in the Pittsburgh area of Pennsylvania. Earlier in his career, he taught in the classroom as an engineering lecturer in China through a joint degree program with Valparaiso University. From 2015 to 2015, Mr. Johnson taught core subjects, such as statics, dynamics, the mechanics of materials and engineering decision-making. This teaching experience broadened his technical foundation, strengthened his communication skills and deepened his commitment to mentoring future engineers.

Mr. Johnson’s academic journey began with an international focus as a research student at Kagawa University in Japan from 2012 to 2013, following an international internship. He soon after earned a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering from the University of Toledo in Toledo, Ohio, in 2014, and a Master of Science in civil and environmental engineering from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh in 2015. Additionally, Mr. Johnson achieved engineer-in-training status through the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying and certification as a professional engineer through the Virginia Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation.

Active in his professional community, Mr. Johnson is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and the Northern Virginia chapter of the Carnegie Mellon Alumni Association. These connections have provided valuable opportunities for collaboration and professional growth.

Throughout his career, Mr. Johnson has demonstrated a strong commitment to community service through engineering. He is especially proud of his involvement with Engineers Without Borders, the USA Northern Virginia Professionals chapter, where he serves as the vice president. After obtaining his professional engineering license two years ago, he became actively engaged in projects aimed at making tangible improvements for underserved communities. Notably, Mr. Johnson played a key role as technical lead during an assessment trip to Malawi in South East Africa, where he helped address critical drainage issues affecting access to hospitals and educational facilities. Domestically, he contributed significantly to a project supporting a local wildlife rehabilitation volunteer group in establishing their headquarters. Among other civic engagements, Mr. Johnson has served as treasurer of the board of directors of Jefferson Mews and as president of the Jefferson Mews Homeowners Association since 2023.

Mr. Johnson attributes much of his success to his openness to new opportunities. His willingness to embrace diverse experiences has consistently enriched his professional journey.
