Jonathan Pelus, Lead Controls and Electrical Engineer at Honeywell UOP and Owner at Morgan E&I LLC, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Engineers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in Electrical Engineering.

Attributing more than two decades of experience in the energy sector, Mr. Pelus has established himself as a distinguished expert in electrical engineering, specializing in arc flash analysis, design, single lines, cable tray layouts and sizing, and, among other areas, power system modeling. His technical mastery is matched by his practical approach to project execution and his commitment to advancing the industry through innovative solutions.

Since 2013, Mr. Pelus has served as a lead controls and electrical engineer at Honeywell UOP following the company’s acquisition of UOP. In this capacity, he has overseen engineering teams responsible for E&I design, control network layout, one-line analysis, lighting and wiring systems, conduit and cable tray sizing and calculations, and more. His responsibilities also include conducting loop checks during startup operations. In 2015, Mr. Pelus was appointed as the lead electrical engineer for cryogenic gas plants after Honeywell’s acquisition of Thomas Russell Co., further expanding his influence within the organization. His work with the Callidus group, focused on burners and flares, has extended his reach into critical safety systems across global projects.

A defining highlight of Mr. Pelus’s career has been his pivotal role in the development and advancement of cryogenic plants at Honeywell UOP. Transitioning from nearly a decade at Ametek Engineering to the LNG sector allowed him to broaden his expertise while traveling internationally for project delivery. Mr. Pelus’s contributions have been particularly impactful given the growing demand for LNG technology worldwide. Notably, Mr. Pelus completed over 190 cryogenic natural gas liquids plants over the past decade at Russell, often serving as a liaison with construction teams to ensure seamless integration between design and field operations.

Mr. Pelus is also the owner of Morgan E&I LLC. As an investor and business leader, he specializes in gas chromatograph building design and fabrication for both domestic and international clients. His business activities include three-dimensional analysis, electrical cable routing and system certifications across North America and beyond. Mr. Pelus manages projects that require coordination with panel shops and vendors for control systems while maintaining high profit margins through strategic structuring of his company.

Earlier in his career, from 2004 to 2012, Mr. Pelus worked as an electrical engineer at Ambitech Engineering Corporation in Des Plaines, Illinois, a firm later acquired by Zachry Engineering, where he refined his skills in industrial plant design and project management.

Throughout his professional journey, Mr. Pelus has demonstrated resilience in navigating complex challenges, such as managing global teams across multiple time zones. He regularly participates in early morning meetings to coordinate with clients in Qatar or engineering partners in South Korea affiliated with Samsung. Despite the demands of international collaboration, including working late nights or early mornings, Mr. Pelus values these experiences for their role in honing his technical acumen.

A graduate of Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana, Mr. Pelus earned a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering technology in 2003. His academic background laid a strong foundation for his subsequent accomplishments, beginning with formative coursework at Pennsylvania State University before transferring to Purdue, where he benefited from direct exposure to main campus resources.

Mr. Pelus’s expertise is further evidenced by his professional credentials. He holds a certificate in fire and gas design analysis for the International Society of Automation code through Conexus and an arc flash analysis certification from Rockwell and Honeywell Systems. These credentials underscore Mr. Pelus’s commitment to maintaining industry standards for safety and reliability.

Active in professional organizations, Mr. Pelus holds membership with RECON by Fire in Rose, Oklahoma, as well as range memberships for competitive shooting. Notably, he achieved a tie for fourth place by hitting a 34-inch by 34-inch target from one mile away during competition. Civic engagement is another facet of Mr. Pelus’s life. He frequently contributes to charitable causes, such as SMILE, during the holidays, a reflection of his commitment to giving back to the community.

Mr. Pelus’s outstanding service has been recognized through multiple Bravo Awards from Honeywell International Inc., along with an honorary award from the organization. Beyond technical achievements, he is passionate about mentoring aspiring engineers by emphasizing the importance of field experience alongside academic training. Mr. Pelus encourages new entrants to develop practical skills that bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world application while always respecting the inherent dangers associated with high-voltage environments.

Looking ahead, Mr. Pelus aims to expand Morgan E&I LLC by leveraging partnerships with panel shops and vendors while minimizing exposure through careful business structuring. He also remains actively involved in developing control systems for pyrolysis plants that convert recycled plastics into feedstocks suitable for food-grade applications, a project undertaken with American waste management experts to address pressing environmental concerns.

Mr. Pelus attributes much of his success to relentless self-improvement rather than formal mentorships. He values learning from experience and draws inspiration from collaboration with talented colleagues at Honeywell who share a drive for innovation. Through every stage of his career, from early interests inspired by Nikola Tesla’s inventions to leading major LNG infrastructure projects worldwide, Mr. Pelus has exemplified dedication to excellence within electrical engineering while making meaningful contributions both professionally and personally.
