Gary A. Fox, MS, PS, PE, field engineer at Indiana Department of Transportation, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Engineers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in field engineering.
With nearly three and a half decades of experience to his credit, Mr. Fox has built a successful career in building and construction, specializing in construction inspection, field engineering, and land surveying. He has held a notable tenure with the Indiana Department of Transportation, currently excelling as an engineer, a position he has held since 2024. Prior to this, he served as a senior pre-bid engineer in the contract administration division from 2023 to 2024, a construction area engineer with the Crawfordsville District from 2021 to 2023, and an area pavement engineer from 2016 to 2021.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Fox was a resident project representative at Commonwealth Engineers Inc., a comprehensive engineering and consulting firm specializing in water resource management and infrastructure projects, from 2014 to 2016, a construction engineer, inspector, and surveyor at The Schneider Corporation, a family-owned firm specializing in land surveying and civil engineering, from 2012 to 2014, and an owner’s representative at Cripe Architects + Engineers, a multidisciplinary design firm that offers a wide range of services including architecture, civil engineering, land surveying, energy and facilities planning, equipment planning, and real estate services from 2006 to 2012.
Mr. Fox also held roles as a survey party chief and field coordinator at Projects Plus, a versatile construction company specializing in project management and execution for residential and commercial clients from 2004 to 2006, a survey party chief and instrument operator at EMH&T in 2004, a project coordinator at The Trane Company from 1995 to 1999, and a project inspector at the Johnson County Department of Planning from 1991 to 1995. He is also a member of the Indiana Society of Professional Land Surveyors.
Laying a solid foundation for his success, Mr. Fox pursued an education at Indiana University Purdue, earning an Associate of Science in construction technology, a Bachelor of Science in Education from the same institution in 1995, and coursework in interdisciplinary engineering in 2002. His education culminated in a Master of Science in civil engineering from Ohio University in 2022.
Reflecting on his career, Mr. Fox spent most of his career with consulting engineering firms, and initially pursued a mechanical design program, securing a position with a construction company. However, his passion led him to switch to the construction program. He takes great pride in his experience in land surveying. Additionally, he cherishes his involvement in the housing development boom in Central Indiana for several years. He attributes his success to his dedication and hard work, as he persists relentlessly, refusing to give up until he achieves his goals. A standout example is his recent completion of a master’s degree at 60 years old.
Mr. Fox is determined to contribute significantly to the agency through special projects in the coming years. He looks forward to seizing opportunities to devise and execute new strategies and wants to polish his skills in the new role. After continuing in his field, he hopes to eventually transition into consulting work.
