He currently excels as the president of SQS LLC, a position he has held since 2015. SQS LLC provides general contracting and project management services for residential and commercial construction projects, focusing on quality workmanship and customer satisfaction. His experience includes serving as division manager at Olin Corporation from 2010 to 2014 and from 2006 to 2010, quality assurance manager from 2001 to 2006, and technical and engineering manager from 1991 to 2001. Olin Corporation is a global manufacturer and distributor of chemical products, primarily serving the chlor-alkali and epoxy markets, as well as the defense industry. The company is committed to sustainability and innovation, providing high-quality products while ensuring safe and responsible operations. Throughout his career, he has obtained 12 patents and has been honored with the Research and Development Top 100 Award from Olin Corporation in 1998, as well as other recognitions from Olin Corporation in 1995.
Laying a solid educational foundation, Mr. Shaffer earned an Executive Master of Business of Administration from Michigan Ross at the University of Michigan, a master’s degree in chemical engineering from Case Western Reserve University, and certifications as a lead auditor in food safety management systems and quality management systems from Exemplar Global Inc. in 2012. He also earned a Six Sigma Green Belt from Villanova University. He takes great pride in being involved in research and seeing concepts grow into something meaningful. He considers himself hardworking, diligent, and able to speak from a research and development perspective. Although he has encountered setbacks along the way, he has learned and grown from those experiences. He understands that developing a process from concept to implementation within a specific timeframe while acknowledging the business situation is challenging. Additionally, he demonstrates patience and acceptance of failure, learning from it and persevering to move forward.
In the coming years, Mr. Shaffer hopes to utilize his Six Sigma certification, as well as his certifications in lead training, hazard analysis, critical points, and food safety, along with Kepner Tregoe and root cause analysis training, to help people troubleshoot. He enjoys working with companies and applying these methods to help them understand the benefits of having these capabilities. He has also enjoyed working as a consultant and wants to continue in that role, sharing his knowledge and experiences to see others benefit. When advising aspiring professionals, he emphasizes that success involves both technical expertise and effective collaboration with people. He believes it is essential to get team members to rally around common goals and share the same passion for what they’re trying to accomplish.
